AA Browse for iOS & CarPlay

Short answer: AA Browse isn't available for iPhone or Apple CarPlay. It's built for Android Auto only. Apple doesn't allow web browsers or video apps on CarPlay, so no developer can release a CarPlay browser through the App Store. The good news is that there are still ways to get browsing and video on your CarPlay screen, depending on your iOS version and car.

Why AA Browse doesn't work on iPhone

Android Auto lets you enable Developer Mode and install apps from sources like AAStore. That's how AA Browse reaches your car screen.

Apple's CarPlay works differently. It only allows a handful of approved app categories, such as navigation, audio, messaging, and EV charging, and web browsers and video players aren't on that list. iOS also blocks third-party apps from drawing their own interfaces onto the CarPlay display, and DRM-protected video (like Netflix) can't play inside CarPlay. Apple does this to limit driver distraction, and it applies to every app, not just AA Browse.

Your options for browsing and video on CarPlay

There's no single fix that works for everyone. Here's how the four main options compare:

No jailbreak required · iOS 14.0 to 15.6.1 / 15.7 (beta)

Cartube – YouTube on CarPlay, no jailbreak

Cartube plays YouTube videos directly on your CarPlay screen. It installs without a full jailbreak, but it only works on older iOS versions. If your iPhone has been updated past iOS 15.7, look at the other options below.

Jailbreak required · iOS support varies

Carbridge – mirror any app to CarPlay

Carbridge lets you run almost any iPhone app on CarPlay, including full web browsers, Netflix, and other streaming apps. It's the most complete software solution, but it requires a jailbroken iPhone.

Android AI box – the easiest option for most people

An AI box is a small adapter that plugs into your car's CarPlay USB port. Your car thinks it's connected to CarPlay, but the box actually runs a full Android system on the screen. That means you can install AA Browse, download apps, and stream YouTube or Netflix without touching your iPhone. This is usually the simplest choice if you're on a current iOS version and don't want to jailbreak.

Parked video mode – check your car first

Some newer cars can play video or open a web browser directly through their own infotainment system, with no phone needed. For safety reasons, these features only work while the car is in Park.

iOS & CarPlay FAQ

Common questions about AA Browse on iPhone and CarPlay.

Is there an AA Browse app for iPhone?

No. AA Browse is an Android Auto app. Apple doesn't allow web browsers on CarPlay, so there's no iPhone or CarPlay version.

Why can't I use a web browser on Apple CarPlay?

CarPlay only allows approved app categories such as navigation, music, and messaging. Web browsers and video players are excluded to reduce driver distraction, so they can't be distributed through the App Store for CarPlay.

Can I watch YouTube on CarPlay without jailbreaking?

Yes, in two ways. Cartube works without a jailbreak on iOS 15.7 and earlier. On newer iOS versions, an Android AI box is the most reliable no-jailbreak option.

Do AI boxes work with wireless CarPlay?

AI boxes plug into your car's CarPlay USB port, so your car needs to support wired CarPlay. Once connected, the box runs its own Android system, so you can use AA Browse, YouTube, and Netflix without modifying your iPhone.

Does AA Browse work on Android Auto?

Yes. AA Browse is fully supported on Android Auto head units. The limitations on this page only apply to Apple CarPlay.
